“I hoped I would do well in the prologue and the first stages.” commented Ethan Hayter yesterday, and his hopes came true today in Santa Sofia, being the first to cross the finish line once again, in the Giro d’Italia Giovani Under 23 Enel.
Having won the prologue, he dominated once more in the first stage between Riccione and Santa Sofia.
London-born Hayter, wearing the Enel maglia rosa, punched the air in victory ahead of Zimmermann of Germany and Brunel of France. The first of the Italians to cross the finish line, coming fourth, was Gregorio Ferri, who won the group sprint.
Tomorrow, Saturday the 15th June, the second stage begins, starting in Bagno di Romagna and ending in Pescia, with three hill climbs in the early parts of the stage.
