The teams participating in Italy’s Cycling Tour, scheduled from 7 to 16 June 2018, are divided as follows:
- Italian club/continental teams no. 15
- Foreign teams no. 12
- Regional/interregional teams no. 1
- Total no. of Teams 28
Teams interested in participating in Giro d’Italia must apply to S.T.F. – Settore Strada – by January 31, 2018.
Participation requests can also be sent by a mixed team, exclusively from companies with multiple membership (consisting of a maximum of two companies) included in the list published by the Authority.
Admission of Italian teams:
Italian teams will be admitted according to a merit-based ranking organized as follows:
Selection period: from January 1st to May 13, 2018.

International (including abroad), national and regional competitions;
Points awarded:
In international stage and mass start events class 1.2 and 2.2:
Order of arrival (first 10) 15-13-11-9-7-6-5-4-3-2 points
Final standings (first 10) 25-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4 points
Double score for races classified as class 1.1, 1.HC, 2.1, 2.HC, 1.Ncup, 2.Ncup (8 points are awarded for placing 10th to 15th)
In national stage and mass start events:
Order of arrival (first 10) 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 points
Final standings (first 10) 15-13-11-9-7-6-5-4-3-2 points
In regional competitions:
Order of arrival (first 5) 5-4-3-2-1 points
In regional combined competitions:
Final standings (first 5) 5-4-3-2-1 points
Final standings points for stage races must not be multiplied by the days of competition.
In case of a tie in the standings, precedence is given to the team with the most wins in the competition.
Track activities-Points awarded (from January 1st to May 14, 2018)
Call-up to Italian national team in international competitions class 1 and 2: 3 points;
Call-up to Italian national team in World Cup trials: 5 points;
Call-up to Italian national team in the World Championship: 10 points;
Order of arrival (first 5)
In class 1 and 2 international races: 5,4,3,2,1 points;
In World Cup competitions: 15,13,11,9,7 points;
In World Championships: 30,26,22,18,14 points;
In team specialties points for each athlete;
Other modalities
Italian athletes participating in competitions with the National team, will contribute to the points of their club team (please note that points for call-up to the Italian team refer exclusively to track activities);
Teams will consist of six athletes;
Italian teams can include only one foreign athlete;
The Regional/Interregional team cannot include athletes whose team is competing;
For the selection to the 2019 Giro d’Italia, 10 points will be awarded to team participating in the 2018 Team Time Trial Italian Championship.
